Technological advancements have afforded us innovative ways to recycle food waste, from orange and banana peels to oyster shells and coffee grounds, into eco-friendly textiles. New materials that are not only functional but also sustainable emerge when technology is integrated with traditional methods of fabric-making. This artwork reminds us that consciously grown fibres and innovative textiles are a step towards a world which is free from any kind of environmental, human or animal exploitation.
These processes are gentler and give our planet more time to regenerate its finite resources. ‘You are what you eat’ is the past, today it is ‘You wear what you eat’. It benefits our health and also our planet.
CHAT and The Mills Fabrica jointly launches SEED TO TECHSTYLE Furoshiki. Created by integrative design studio Pop & Zebra, the thematic illustration is printed on fabric made by TENCEL™ Lyocell fibres with Cooltrans® technology, while engaging local enterprise RHYS for production and packaging. Furoshiki can be used in a variety of ways. Adapting to different packaging methods, it can be used as lunch bags, gift wrapping, or tablecloths.
