Seed to Textile 2025 – Open Call for Seeders

CHAT is calling for new Seeders!

Since 2019, CHAT’s flagship community programme Seed to Textile has been acquainting artists and members of the public with the connections between nature, textiles and art through hands-on experiences ranging from farming to gallery practice. Artists and participants handle seeds and seedlings, harvest plants, extract colours from them, and create artworks by dyeing fabrics with natural pigments.

This year, we have invited Hong Kong artist Sara Tse to explore how nature and textiles give shape to people’s memories and, during the process, preserve collective memories with students and community members. Taking her demolished alma mater as a starting point, she will lead Seeders – comprising her fellow alumni and passionate participants from the public – in planting at the rooftop farm at The Mills for producing natural dyes and fibres, which will then be used to create artworks for CHAT’s spring 2026 exhibition.

We are now looking for enthusiasts of nature and community art to join our energetic team of Seeders. Please apply if you are interested in the programme and meet the following criteria:

  • Passionate about planting and sustainability, create a sustainable mother nature
  • Passionate about textile culture and community art
  • Interested in Hong Kong’s community culture
  • Willing to participate in outdoor planting activities
  • Able to participate in planting activities at The Deck at the Mills at least once per month
  • Able to participate in art and textile making workshops at CHAT from May to October
