Code and Knit: Knitting Machine Show-and-Tell
How can binary code be translated into textiles that we can touch and wear?
In this sharing, instructor Tam Chi Wing Kevin will talk about how knitted fabrics are made, and guide participants to design their own patterns through the process of coding, transcribing and decoding. The session will include machine demonstrations as well as Tam’s sharing on his four decades of experience working in the local knitwear industry.
By the end of the session, you will be able to design and create your own knit pattern on a punchcard in our Unlearning Space, which you then have the option to turn into a knitted fabric for a small fee. The finished fabric swatch will be mailed to you at a later date.
