BUILD_CMYK: Upcycling Workshop
Did you know that plastic PET bottles – those sitting at the bottom of your rubbish bin right now – are full of creative and sustainable potential? Those disposable bottles could actually be spun into fibre and woven into pliable cloth, ready for an upcycle transformation with a snip, snap of your scissors!
In this workshop, participants will make an item of clothing by repurposing fabrics from Nagashima Rikako’s artwork SCRAP_CMYK, a series of lightweight curtains on view during the exhibition Spinning East Asia Series I: A Compass in Hand. The workshop will first introduce the sustainable design practices of the artist. Later, knowledge will be put into action as participants make use of an existing ‘zero-waste’ paper pattern to cut, then sew, hem and finish their own sustainably designed piece of clothing.
Materials: All materials will be provided
Language: Cantonese with informal interpretation into English
Experience: The workshop welcomes participants aged 16 or above; participants with basic sewing experience is preferred
SCRAP_CMYK was realised with support from Kvadrat.
