Over the past few seasons, CHAT has been experimenting with many exciting ways to dye textiles using natural processes. In this workshop, participants will be able to dye using CHAT’s homegrown and homemade indigo paste and learn how to turn natural plants foraged in Hong Kong into exciting textile dyes inspired by the environment around us.
Dyeing a range of reds (madder root), dusty pinks (sappanwood), bright yellows (cape jasmine), and blues (indigo), participants will practice resist dye techniques to make their own unqiue textile artwork. Each participant will bring home a dyed tenugui (Japanese cotton towel).
Experience level: No prior experience is needed. Suitable for children aged 6 and above. Children under 12 should be accompanied by an adult.
Materials needed: All tools and materials will be provided, including ONE tenugui to be dye per participant.
Language: English with interpretation into Cantonese
