Indigo Shibori Workshop
Join us to learn Japanese shibori techniques and indigo dyeing! In this workshop, participants will experience dyeing with indigo paste from the indigofera tinctoria plants grown locally by CHAT over the past two years as part of the Seed to Textile programme.
Each participant will dye three tenugui (Japanese cotton towel) using three Japanese-inspired dye-resist techniques to create a wide range of patterns by manipulating the fabric prior to dyeing. Stitch shibori involves stitching patterns on the fabric to resist the dye. Itajime shibori involves folding, clamping and dyeing to create repeating kaleidoscopic motifs. Katazome (rice paste resist) uses stencils and rice paste to prevent dye from penetrating the fabric.
