Code to Print: Screenprinting with JavaScript Design
The poetics of repetition, symmetry and geometry are found in both computer code and textile design. In this two-part workshop held on two separate days, participants will first learn to code repeating patterns with JavaScript and then screenprint their original designs onto fabric.
Part 1 of this workshop will be held online via Zoom and will be led by New York-based cross-disciplinary artist, educator and programmer Aarati Akkapeddi. Akkapeddi will introduce designing patterns with JavaScript coding, share their artistic practice and the critical engagement with technology. Participants will receive a Zoom link and an email reminder three days prior to the event.
Part 2 of the workshop will be held physically at CHAT Studio, where participants will screenprint their designs onto fabric. Participants must choose between one of two timeslots for screenprinting, which will be available on a first-come-first-served basis during registration.
Experience: No prior experience required, age 12 or above
Materials: Computer equipped with Zoom and able to access the free p5.js Web Editor; all other materials will be provided
Language: English with informal translation to Cantonese
