Timmy Wong
Timmy Wong took over his father’s embroidery business at the age of 18, since then he has dedicated nearly 50 years to what is now Hong Kong’s renowned kwan kwa brand Lucky Embroidery. Exposed to the operation and development of local handicraft industry from a young age, Wong is committed to promoting kwan kwa culture both in Hong Kong and internationally through both reviving vintage styles and innovating modern designs.
Under his advocacy, kwan kwa was recognised as one of Hong Kong’s intangible cultural heritage items in 2012. In recent years, Wong has committed himself to preserving and promoting the craftsmanship of embroidery. He has carried out a series of lectures, workshops and exhibitions on kwan kwa under the Intangible Cultural Heritage Funding Scheme. As of late 2024, he co-authored and published the book Preserving Craftsmanship: The Origins and Appreciation of Hong Kong Kwan Kwa.
