Dong Yan
Dong Yan (Dong Xianliang) earned his PhD in Chinese and History from the City University of Hong Kong in 2021. He currently researches and conducts editorial work at the Jao Tsung-I Academy of Sinology at Hong Kong Baptist University. Previously, he has assumed professional roles at the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts, City University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Shue Yan University.
His research centres the three main themes of the body, language and materiality, while his topical objects ranges across space, time and media, including writings on herbal medicine from the Ming dynasty, contemporary Chinese performances and social events of the Cold War period. Beyond academic research, his is also a writer, researcher and dramaturg, collaborating with libraries, art museums, performance collectives and independent artists to put into practice his knowledge.
