HE Yongdi
Born and residing on Chongming Island, Shanghai, He Yongdi is the founder of the Yongdi Homespun Museum and serves as a guest professor for Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology. She began learning to weave at about seven years old and started collecting Chongming homespun fabrics around 2000, amassing over 12,000 different styles. To pass down the local textile culture in a sustainable and impactful manner, she has collaborated with designers and design brands in China and abroad over the past decade to create homespun fabric products that align with contemporary aesthetics.
In 2017, He founded the Yongdi Homespun Museum and made her entire collection accessible to the public. In 2018, she worked with educators to launch the course ‘What to Wear’, promoting homespun fabrics through education. The project was shortlisted for the inaugural Art Power 100 award for the 100 most benevolent design works in China in 2018.
