Cian Dayrit
Cian Dayrit is an interdisciplinary artist from the Philippines who investigates notions of space, power and identity as they are represented and reproduced in monuments, museums, maps and other institutionalised media. Through textile, installations, archival interventions and community-based workshops, Dayrit’s work responds to different marginalised communities, encouraging a critical reflection on colonial and privileged perspectives. While informed by the colonial experience of the Philippines, his work nonetheless defies being tied to a specific position or location. Instead, his work and research cross over geopolitical and supranational bearings.
Dayrit’s art has recently been featured in solo exhibitions at MONO8, Mandaluyong (2023); Artinformal, Makati (2021); NOME Gallery, Berlin (2021); ARCO Madrid, Madrid (2020) and Frieze Art Fair, London (2019). He has also participated in group exhibitions at Talbot Rice Gallery, Edinburgh (2023); the Loft, Servais Family Collection, Brussels (2023); HUA International, Berlin (2022) and other art institutions. He received the CCP Thirteen Artists Award in 2018 and the Ateneo Art Award in 2017.
